I disagree though. As a small child it wasn’t your responsibility to know everything, especially something you’d never been exposed to and something as big as racism.

This story reminds me of my first few times in super rural communities in Jamaica. Little children gawked and ran away. A few asked if my skin color could rub off because they’d never seen a white person in real life. I would never call that racist, I would say they just didn’t know. Their upbringing never exposed them to my kind.
