If Botox Doesn’t Boost Your Self Esteem, Your Appearance Isn’t the Issue

And you won’t find answers in the mirror

To some degree, we all have issues with aging. It sort of feels like our lifelong partner, the bathroom mirror, suddenly switches to a distorted fun house mirror, almost overnight.

Obviously, we don’t see a twenty-five year old staring back at us when we’re fifty.

I’m not sure if there’s a kind way to convey this message but I’m going to give it a shot. Just give me a minute to run to the bathroom and slap on a thin layer of anti-aging cream.

Just kidding.

I have a Botox friend. Actually, she’s more of an acquaintance now but we used to be friends.

This particular friend is done up to the nines on any given day. Hair always perfect, high-end clothing, designer everything, and yes…all the Botox money can buy.

In a way, we all have special friends like mine. They’re called celebrities and none of them seem to be aging naturally. Those of us who are, are a dying breed.

Last year I read an article and I wish I could remember how to find it again. The woman who wrote it was basically tearing herself up about the fact that she was physically aging.

She was a self-proclaimed Botox queen yet she was STILL unhappy with the the fact that she was experiencing something we all do — getting older.

My Botox friend is the same way. No matter how much filler and makeup she wears, she still has a problem with the way she looks.

As a woman who is pro-natural, I find it mildly insulting.

I remember being on vacation with my friend and each evening while getting ready to go out she constantly needed some kind of validation from me about how she looked. She thought she looked like crap.

After taking her incessant complaining up the tailpipe for longer than I cared to, one night I simply said, “If you think you look like crap I can’t imagine how you think I look.”

And that’s the truth of it. You can’t possibly think any of us natural agers are beautiful if you can’t accept your own beauty. It’s insulting.
